Custom websites, online shops and the systems behind them, designed and built in-house in Harrogate since 2006.
Wonder Media is a web design and development agency in Harrogate. We build custom websites and online shops, and the web systems that sit behind them - member portals, booking systems, job boards, property platforms. Most clients come to us at the point where an off-the-shelf site has stopped being enough.
The person you talk to is the person who writes the code. No account manager relaying messages, and nothing handed down to a junior once the work is won. It's the difference between a brief being understood and a brief being passed on.
We've worked this way since 2006, from Harrogate and across Knaresborough, Ripon, Wetherby, York and Leeds, with clients throughout the UK.
Custom website design, content-managed sites and online shops, built around how your business actually works.
Portals, CRMs, booking systems, job boards and secure data systems, built from scratch rather than bent into shape.
Connecting your site to Rightmove, AutoTrader, job boards and Stripe, plus AI doing a specific job - sorting, matching, summarising. If the API doesn't exist, we'll work with the supplier to build one.
Site speed, Core Web Vitals, structured data and indexing fixes - on any site, not only the ones we built.
Managed hosting in UK data centres, behind Cloudflare, with monitoring and backups.
Developer time every month for fixes, changes, updates and security. Plans from 6 to 40 hours.
Book a time and we’ll talk through what you need, what it has to do, and whether we’re the right fit. If we’re not, we’ll say so.
You get it in writing: what’s included, what isn’t, and a fixed price worked out from the hours the job needs rather than a number picked to look right.
Designs for the key page types, starting with the homepage to set the look and feel, then revised until you’re happy with them. Nothing gets built until you’ve approved how it looks.
Everything is built in-house. Once there’s a working version you review it and we refine it, and before launch it’s tested on phones, tablets and desktops - physical devices as well as simulators - across the current browsers.
We handle the redirects, SSL and DNS. The launch date is yours to set - plenty of clients time it around something else, a campaign, a rebrand, a quiet week - and we work to that. Afterwards you can host and maintain the site with us, or take it elsewhere.
Most website projects take 8 to 12 weeks, and we work on a small number at a time - we’ll confirm a start date before anything is committed.
Tell us what you're trying to build and we'll tell you what's involved.
Every conversation is with the person designing and building your project. You get answers from the person doing the work, not a version relayed through someone else.
Every line of code, every design decision, every integration is done here. Nothing is outsourced, and nothing is generated and shipped unread. When something breaks, it's fixed by the person who built it.
Clean, lightweight code, and no proprietary platform you can only run through us. You get a perpetual licence to everything we build for you and can take it to another developer.
A police federation portal, recruitment platforms, property sites with live Rightmove and Zoopla feeds, a multi-site network for a parenting franchise. All still running.
of new work comes through referrals
Infrastructure you can trustSquarespace, Wix and the AI site builders are good at what they do. If you need a handful of pages describing your business, they'll get you online quickly and cheaply, and we'd rather say so than sell you something you don't need.
They stop being the answer when the site has to do a job. Pulling live property feeds from Rightmove. Taking bookings against live availability. Holding member data securely. Talking to the system you already run the business on. That's the point where you need someone who can write the code, and someone accountable when it stops working.
The other thing a builder can't give you is a person. Every site we build is designed, built and looked after by the same developer, and that developer answers the email.

Two sectors we know inside out: recruitment websites and platforms and property websites with Rightmove and Zoopla integration.
From our initial meeting, the guys at Wonder Media completely understood our goals. Having supported us with a full re-brand, two new websites and ongoing SEO, we have absolute confidence in their creative advice and technical support - we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Wonder Media have looked after Harrogate Mumbler from the start, and we have no hesitation in recommending them. From brand design, website development and on-going support the team at Wonder Media always go above and beyond expectations. We wouldn't use anyone else.
A selection of the platforms we've connected directly. We also work with existing systems and their developers to get platforms talking to each other - sending and receiving data where it needs to go.
Most website projects fall between £4,000 and £10,000, and we quote a fixed price once we’ve talked through what you need. Online shops and custom systems vary too much to give a range for, so those are scoped individually. Whatever the figure, it’s worked out from the hours the job needs rather than picked to look right, and it’s the figure you pay.
Most website projects take 8 to 12 weeks from the start of the project. We work on a small number of projects at a time, so the start date depends on the next available slot, and we confirm that before anything is committed. Online shops and custom systems are scoped individually. The thing that most often moves a finish date is content - copy, photography, product information - so where any of that needs writing or sourcing, we build it into the schedule rather than wait on it.
No. Every site is designed and built for the business it’s for, so there’s no theme to fight and nothing in the code you’re not using. It keeps the site fast too, because there’s no bulk to strip out later. Where a platform makes sense - WordPress for content-managed sites, WooCommerce for shops - we build on it properly rather than bolt a template onto it.
Yes. Most sites are built on a content management system, so your team can change text, images and pages without touching code. We walk you through it at handover, and if you’d rather we made the changes for you, that’s what our Care plans are for.
The person you talk to. There are no salespeople or account managers here - every project is designed and built in-house by an experienced developer, and that’s who answers your emails from the first conversation through to launch and beyond.
Yes. We’re based in Harrogate and most of our clients are across North and West Yorkshire - Knaresborough, Ripon, Wetherby, York, Leeds - but we work with businesses throughout the UK. Most of a project happens over email and calls anyway, so distance rarely comes into it. If you’re nearby and would rather talk in person, we can do that too.
Yes - we host most of the websites and systems we build, and we’d recommend it, because it means the person who built your site is also the one looking after the server it runs on. Everything runs on UK infrastructure behind Cloudflare, your site data and backups are held in UK data centres, and our hosted sites average 99.999% uptime - the live figures are on our status page. You’re never tied to us, though. If you’d rather host elsewhere, or move later, you can take the site with you.
Usually, yes. We start by looking at what’s there and telling you honestly whether it’s worth keeping, fixing or replacing - sometimes the site is fine and what you need is a smaller piece of work than you thought. Sites built by a developer who’s since moved on, or by an AI tool that got most of the way there, are familiar ground.
Support runs Monday to Thursday, 8am to 6pm. Standard requests come back within one to two working days, and urgent issues the same day where we can. Anything landing on a Friday or over the weekend is picked up on Monday morning.
Every project starts with a conversation. You'll speak directly to the developer who'd design and build it.
